Our topic questions are:

'What is in our school's name?' and 'Who is who in the Nativity?'

What is in our school's name?

By the end of this unit, pupils should know:

The Christian church identifies certain figures from its past as saints;

The names of some saints in Christianity;

Typical characteristics of a saint;

The story of the school’s name;

If the school is named after a saint, pupils should know where the story can be found;

How and why the school and parish church came to be named after the saint/how the school got its name;

The saint’s day for this saint;

How the parish church / school remembers its saint whom it is dedicated to;

The symbol of the saint, what it means and where there are representations locally;

The beliefs, ways of life and teachings of the Saint

Who is who in the Nativity?

By the end of this unit, pupils should know:

‘Nativity’ is the birth of Jesus;

Other important characters and their role in the Nativity;

How each character in the Nativity made a difference to others;

Christians believe Jesus is God’s Son and was born as a gift to the world from God;

Why angels announced Jesus’ birth and how this was ‘good news;’

Christmas as the focus of worship of Jesus;

Christians believe that the Nativity was when the ‘incarnation’ happened, this was God being born in human form as Jesus.

              Why were shepherds the first people to have the good news revealed to them?

      Why is the Nativity story so important to Christians?

 

Who are the important people in the Nativity story to me?
